Trends in nanoscience: theory, experiment, technology
E-mail Print PDF

The workshop is organized by the Abdus Salam International Centre for Theoretical Physics (ICTP), Trieste, Italy, along with the Horia Hulubei National Institute of Physics and Nuclear Engineering (IFIN-HH), Bucharest, Romania, in cooperation with the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), Vienna, Austria, and will be held in Aula Magna of the University Lucian Blaga located in the Dept. of Language & Literature, Blvd. Victoriei no.5-7 , Sibiu, Romania.

Nanoscience is a rapid developing field, whose dynamics and prospects pose great challenges to scientists and engineers. It is one of the most isible and growing multidisciplinary research areas, both in fundamental and applied physics.
The aim of this workshop is to facilitate experts and active researchers o exchange ideas and information on the most recent results in anophysics and nanotechnology. It will be also an opportunity for young researchers and for researchers from developing countries to enlarge their nowledge and to approach new themes in this area.
The lecturers will be leading experimental and theoretical researchers in these fields. They will address lectures of 45, 30 or 20 minutes. A poster ession will be also organized.

Topics

  • Transport phenomena in nanosystems
  • Nanophotonics
  • Mechanical and optical properties of nanosystems
  • Nanomagnetism
  • Semiconductor nanotechnology
  • Medical use of nanomaterials
  • Radiation synthesis and characterization of nanostructured materials

Participation

Scientists and students from all countries, which are members of the United Nations, UNESCO or IAEA, may attend the Workshop.

As a rule, travel and subsistence expenses of the participants should be borne by the home institution. However, limited funds are available for some participants, who are nationals of, and working in, a developing country. Such support is available only for those who attend the entire activity.
