Centre of Nuclear Physics and Related Domains (CNF*) has been set up in January 2008 as a department of the National Institute for Physics and Nuclear Engineering (IFIN-HH). Its activity is governed by the overall legislation in force and by domestic/specific regulations of IFIN-HH.
CNF* activities are running on three levels, following the model of ICTP: research; fostering contacts between scientists; education.
More exactly, CNF* intends to develop advanced researches in nuclear physics, astrophysics, high energy physics (cooperation in LHCb-CERN), condensed matter physics, information physics; to create an international forum for the exchange of scientific information and ideas among researchers from Romania and abroad; to organize training activities for young physicists from less developed countries. A special attention will be paid to the development of relations with ICTP-Trieste.
CNF* also intends to manage several projects for the development of a research infrastructure suited to its activities. The ultimate goal of these action is the achievement of a major contribution of IFIN-HH to the creation in Romania of an International Center of Physics, similar to ICTP-Trieste (ICTP-RO).
The financial sources for the CNF* activities will be research projects, contributions of IFIN-HH, conference fees, external funding, etc.
CNF* includes a limited number of researchers, devoted both to fundamental research and the development of the Center, and an administrative staff. CNF* will open also temporary positions, depending on the availability of the funds, for scientists involved in the activities of the centre.
